Why Do I Love QuiltCon?

Our first time vending at QuiltCon was in Austin 2020 (right before the world shut down). And this year will be our second time having a booth and we've decided to bring our kids with us to experience the fun and help out. We took advantage of a conveniently placed long weekend and went to visit the Blue Ridge Mountains in western North Carolina before the conference. Wow, they were truly stunning and well worth the side trip! The mountain air was so refreshing and cool - it kept me lively and awake - sans coffee!

On the drive back to Raleigh, I really started thinking about why I love QuiltCon so much. What is it that makes it so magical? It all started for me in Savannah (2017) and what I loved about that first QuiltCon was traveling with guild friends and being away from my kids for the first time. I was reminded that I was my own person and I loved the energy of being in a huge room with tons of people who were also excited about the new 80wt Aurifil.

Raleigh is my fifth QuiltCon and after some pondering, I think what makes QuiltCon so magical (for me) is the compounding interest of friendship and community I've been so lucky to have built year after year. If you're on the fence about QuiltCon or have worried that you might not know anyone there - I would like to encourage you to give it a try! There are lots of social events and plenty of opportunities to potentially meet the quilter of your life. And just like a RRSP (Canada) or 401k (US) - it's never too late or too early to start investing in your quilty community!
